Hi! My name is Leanne, and I live in Phoenix, Arizona. I turned 40 this year (God, that sounds old!), have two kids and a husband, and I love to mountain bike! If you’re reading this, you probably have at least one of these things in common with me, so welcome to my blog!
Why this blog?
I like blogging, I like mountain biking, and I’m a mom. That’s it in a nutshell. To flesh that out a little more, here are a few other reasons:
- I often ride alone, giving me plenty of time to think. Sometimes I think of something profound or funny that I’d like to remember and/or share with other people, people who might actually care about what I had to say.
- I want to connect with other women mountain bikers. I’ve only recently become aware of other groups of women in my area who are also enamored of dirt and sweat. I know there are more of them out there, maybe this will help me find them!
- I want to help other women find the courage to start moutain biking, but more than that, I wanted to help older women find the courage to start. I got my first (cheap) mountain bike when I was 23, but I never got very good, and I took a long break when we bought the house, had kids, etc… I didn’t get serious until two years ago when I finally bought a nice bike. (One advantage of starting later in life is it often means more disposable income to purchase better equipment!) I turned 40 this year, and I’ve never felt stronger, faster or more skilled than I do now. Age is not a barrier to mountain biking! And you don’t have to believe just me, there are plenty of folks out on the trail - women and men both! – who qualify for the “senior” discount.
- And that’s my final reason for writing this blog: I want to weave mountain biking so firmly into my life that I’ll be out there grinding when I start collecting social security! (Assuming social security is still around, of course!)
I’m fortunate enough to live right next to some of the most awesome single track in the state of Arizona: South Mountain. It’s got miles of trails ranging from super easy to are you freakin’ crazy!??! It’s good stuff, and I hope more of you will be joining us!
Please feel free to leave comments. I’d rather this be a conversation, but I’m okay with talking to myself. Either way, enjoy!

Leanne,
Mountain bike? Wow. That is amazing and one thing I never knew about you. Of course, there are probably a lot of things I don’t know about you, but that’s okay. It truly does sound exciting! I think Wendell went mountain biking a few times before as well.
I just wanted to say that I am so sorry about Popo. I mean, she was your Popo FOR REAL, after all. I thank your mom, Aunty Linda, Uncle James and Uncle Mike for sharing her with me and my family. Your popo was a really special lady and we will miss her. See you in a week or so….take care!
Love,
Lorna
Hi, Lorna!
How did you find me here? Not that I was hiding, but I haven’t exactly advertised it. My husband didn’t even know about this blog. And yes, Popo was a very amazing woman. I’m very blessed to have sprouted from her family tree!
I’ll see you soon,
Love,
Leanne
